Amazon India Fashion Week: Spring Summer 2017: DAY 2 : HIGHLIGHTS

Day 2 also began with a promise of empowering Indian handloom textiles with 9 designers reinventing them in their style and sensibilities. First came, Virtues by Viral, Ashish & Vikrant bringing to life Mrs. Nair’s High Tea with pleating, quilting, mirror work and chord work. The gorgeous Sona Mohapatra closed their show in an orange layered pleated dress. This was followed by Pinnacle by Shruti Sancheti who brought summery florals to the runway. Prama by Pratima Pandey came up with a promise to transfer the past to the future by laying emphasis on the natural fabrics and indigenous embroidery. On the other hand, Urvashi Kaur’s collection – KUL takes its cues from the life in times of globalization. The collection was an ode to totality and oneness in terms of social cross pollination. In the collection, hand spun khadi, linens and cotton along with jamdani weaves were coupled with translucent kota doniya and sheer voiles. Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta’ shows was one of the most talked about shows of the day. The collection had separates for men and women in spectrum of green, brown, red, yellow, white, black and more. Gaurav used monofilament silks and metallic yarns to develop reversible fabrics. Anavila Misra’s collection brought out functionality and essentiality of the rand. It focused on reinventing the classics with pocketed saris being a highlight. With her spring/summer 2017 collection, Payal Pratap experimented with surface texturing and embroideries on khadi resulting in easy, wearable and contemporary separates. Abraham & Thakore continued with the khadi movement bringing the ‘slow’ fashion to the runway. The day ended with Rajesh Pratap Singh and Ashish N Soni bringing monochrome magic with their take on Indian handloom to the runway. The highlight of the day finale was tuxedo girls’ parade by Ashish n Soni led by Rikcee Chatterjee.
